The US Geological Survey said the quake hit at 11:47 pm local time, with its epicenter located around 27 kilometres northeast of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province. At just 8 kilometres deep, the shallow tremor devastated communities in Kunar province, where officials reported widespread destruction.
Kunar dricts among worst affected: The Kunar Disaster Management Authority confirmed that the worst-hit dricts include Nur Gul, Soki, Watpur, Manogi and Chapadare, with hundreds of homes damaged or destroyed. Preliminary reports cited BBC suggest at least 330 people have been injured across Laghman and Nangarhar provinces, 80 in Laghman and 250 in Nangarhar.
