The US Geological Survey said the quake hit at 11:47 pm local time, with its epicenter located around 27 kilometres northeast of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province. At just 8 kilometres deep, the shallow tremor devastated communities in Kunar province, where officials reported widespread destruction.
Kunar dricts among worst affected: The Kunar Disaster Management Authority confirmed that the worst-hit dricts include Nur Gul, Soki, Watpur, Manogi and Chapadare, with hundreds of homes damaged or destroyed.
