Riding on the all-round performance from captain Rashid Khan, Afghanan defeated Bangladesh right runs in the last Super Eight match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The win helped Afghanan qualify for the semifinals, and it knocked out Australia from the tournament. Afghanan are through to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cups for the first time in their hory.
Earlier, It was Rashid Khan’s 10-ball 19, including three sixes in the fag end of the innings, helped Afghanan post 115 for 5 in their 20 overs. After opting to bat first, Afghanan had a slow and cautious start and in their powerplay their openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran failed to replicate their performance against Australia. Gurbaz, however remained his team;s leading run-getter with a 55-ball 43.
For Bangladesh, Rishad Hosein (3/26), Taskin Ahmed (1/12), and Mustafizur Rahman (1/26) shared the spoils.
Chasing 116, with multiple rain breaks, the Bangladesh were bundled out for 105 runs in 17.5 overs. It was Rashid again, who turned the match with his excellent bowling figures of 4 for 26.
Rashid got the wickets of Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah and Rishad Hossain and ran through Bangaldesh’s middle order. he was ably-supported pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, who also picked up four wickets, including the last two.
For Bangladesh, opener Litton Das remained unbeaten on 54.
Afghanan will take on South Africa in the first semifinal, while India will lock horns against England in the second semifinal.
