‘After 57 years together, can’t imagine life without Dharamendra’: Hema Malini opens up, dismisses rift rumours with Deols | Bollywood News

“After 57 years of togetherness, I can’t imagine my life without Dharmendra.”
Almost a month and a half after Dharmendra passed away, leaving his legions of fans heartbroken, his wife Hema Malini has opened up about her loss and the journey towards healing. In an exclusive interview, Hema said that the couple was together for 57 years. Despite their busy schedules, they always found time for each other. The actor-Parliamentarian said Dharmendra would call her while she would be travelling, making it a point to return from his farm from Lonavala to spend time with her and daughter Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.
She also dismissed that there was a rift with Dharmendra’s first family — wife Prakash Kaur and sons Sunny Deol and Bob Deol. The speculation between Dharmendra’s two families began after they held separate prayer meets for him. She said that they have always been on good terms.
How are you, Hemaji?
I was very deeply in sorrow, still that is there. But trying to get out of it, because it is too much for me to take. I am strong, that’s what everybody says… I am strong, but sometimes you… I have to go on, I have to.
How was Dharmendra ji doing during those last days; he returned home too.
He was back at home during the last few days. After going to the hospital, he was back home. Till that time, I am sure he was alright. I felt he would be around for one or two more years, definitely.
So how did this happen?
During the treatment, everything started becoming… I mean, we can’t blame anybody. I don’t know, he was fine. He was not alright, that’s why he went to the hospital. He was admitted to to the hospital many times, and would always come back healthy and smiling. That’s what we were hoping this time also.Story continues below this ad
He had a wonderful life.
Yeah, that I will always say. He had the best of life. Whatever he desired, he had it. Such a sweet person he was. And I feel proud that so many people love him and that person who was loved everyone so much.
Did you see his last film, Ekkis?
I came to Mathura when it was released. I have to do my work here. Also, I can’t see it now, it will be too overwhelming. That’s what my daughters are also saying. Maybe I will watch it later when the wounds start healing.
There was a lot of speculation after Dharmendraji’s death. How is your relationship with Sunny Deol and Bob Deol?Story continues below this ad
It has always been very nice and cordial. Even today it is very nice. I don’t know why people think something is wrong with us. It is because people want gossip. Why should I answer them? Is it necessary for me to give an explanation? Why should I? It’s my life. My personal life, our personal life. We are absolutely happy and very close to each other. That’s it. I don’t have anything more to say about this. I don’t know what stories people are making up. So sad that people use other’s grief to write a few articles. That is why I don’t answer (such speculation).
There will be a museum for Dharamji?
That’s what Sunny is planning. So he will do it. We will consult and do it. He will tell me whatever he does, he tells me.
Are you healing properly?
We were together for 57 years. I can’t imagine a life without him; I miss him every minute. It’s not that we were together all the time. He would always ask, ‘Where are you? When are you coming? Are you coming back? Then, I am also coming back from Lonavala.’ He would come and be here with me and the family. I feel sad without him. When will I meet him again?
