After call with Putin, Trump claims Biden ’emptied out whole country’ arming Ukraine | World News

President Donald Trump on Thursday criticised the scale of US weapons sent to Ukraine, calling it an “emptying out” of America’s own defences, even as he defended continuing some support for Kyiv amid Russia’s intensifying offensive.
Speaking before boarding Air Force One, Trump said the US “gave so many weapons” and must now prioritise its own stockpiles. Trump said former President Joe Biden “emptied out our whole country giving them weapons, and we have to make sure that we have enough for ourselves.”
“We are working with [Ukraine] and trying to help them,” he added, while also revealing details of a lengthy but unproductive phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier in the day.

‘Not happy’
Trump said he had a “pretty long call” with Putin that “didn’t make any progress” in resolving the war, which the Republican president had promised to swiftly bring to a conclusion.
“I’m not happy about that,” he said, adding he thinks Putin ‘is not there’ when it comes to finding a way to stop the conflict in Ukraine.

However, the Kremlin described the talk as “frank and constructive.”
In the conversation, their sixth since Trump returned to office, Putin reportedly stressed a diplomatic solution for Iran-related tensions and reiterated Russia’s demand that any Ukraine peace deal must include Kyiv abandoning its NATO bid and recognising Moscow’s territorial gains.
The two leaders also reportedly discussed space cooperation, joint energy projects, and even the possibility of exchanging pro-“traditional values” films.Story continues below this ad
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking in Denmark, said he hoped to speak with Trump soon about the US weapons suspension, which was not brought up during the Trump-Putin call, according to Russian officials.
The conversation comes amid a pause on Biden-era on air defence missiles and artillery bound for Ukraine, and ongoing fears of a further Russian advance as Kyiv grapples with limited supplies.
