After ISIS threat on India-Pakan T20 World Cup match, Nassau police guarantees: ‘Safest place on 9 June will be inside the stadium’ | Cricket News

With ISIS-K, a pro Islamic State group, having made a threat against the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup match featuring India and Pakan in Nassau, the county’s police commissioner has assured that the security forces have taken adequate measures to ensure that the the safest place to be in Nassau, New York on June 9th will be inside the stadium.
“I can guarantee you this — the safest place to be in Nassau County on June 9th will be inside that stadium,” Patrick J Ryder told CNN on the ISIS-K-linked threat in April and more specific threats over the India versus Pakan match.
Governor Kathy Hochul, New York’s first female governer, also stated on the matter on her X account. “In preparation for the Cricket World Cup, my team has been working with federal & local law enforcement to keep attendees safe. While there is no credible threat at this time, I’ve directed New York Police Department to elevate security measures & we’ll continue to monitor as the event nears,” Hochul wrote.
The propaganda being circulated across the social media includes a poster from the pro-ISIS group that features the date of the India vs Pakan match alongside the Nassau Stadium name. “You wait for the matches. And we wait for you,” reads the text below.
Tickets for the India-Pakan Group B clash at the Eisenhower Park fast sold out and the fixture is expected to host as many as 34,000 people in the stands.
Earlier this month, the prime miner of Trinidad & Tobago, Keith Rowley had also spoken on the threats that loom with regards to hosting as big an event as the World Cup, “Unfortunately, the threat of terrorism in its many and varied expressions is an ever-present danger in the world of the 21st century. Given the fact that bad actors can choose to misbehave in any way possible it makes it virtually impossible to completely seal off all opportunities.”

Later, in a joint statement, the ICC and Cricket West Indies stated, “We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event.”
The 2024 T20 World Cup is set to begin on June 1 with the hosts USA facing Canada in Grand Prairie.
