After nail-biting loss to DC, Sanjiv Goenka delivers a message to his LSG team

Moments after Lucknow Super Giants lost a thriller to Delhi Capitals in their opening match of the IPL, a familiar scene panned out alongside the dugout. LSG chairman Sanjiv Goenka was seen having a animated discussion with his new captain Rishabh Pant, who was bought at the auction for a record Rs 27 crore and their head coach Justin Langer as Lucknow lost a game which they thought they had in the bag when 39 was needed off 17 deliveries with just two wickets left.
The defeat laid bare LSG’s weak bowling unit, which has been hampered injuries and the unavailability of the likes of Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav among others as they failed to defend 209. Having seized control of the game for the major part of the night, it was in the last five overs that LSG lost the plot and Goenka chose to see the positive side.

“Lot of positives that I take away from this game in batting and bowling. The way we had the powerplay in both batting and bowling was brilliant. These things happen. We are a young team, lets look at the positives and look forward from tomorrow to the 27th. And hopefully we’ll have a better result. Disappointing result yes, but great game. So well done,” he said in the LSG dressing room.
Last season, as LSG failed to make the play-offs, Goenka was seen having a heated exchange with then captain KL Rahul, which the franchise didn’t retain ahead of this season. Rahul, incidentally moved to Delhi Capitals, but missed the first game against LSG because of the birth of his first child.
