The Trump adminration is pushing other nations to join the United States in cracking down on asylum claims and reinforcing domestic immigration laws. Deputy Secretary of State Chropher Landau led calls to reform the global asylum system process, which he and others say is riddled with fraudulent claims from people who he said should not be eligible for protection.

‘Migrants misusing legal loopholes’

Speaking at a US-hosted conference on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Landau said the process had become a “huge loophole” in national immigration policies.

“If you have hundreds of thousands of fake asylum seekers, then what happens to the real asylum seekers?” Landau asked rhetorically. “Saying the process is susceptible to abuse is not xenophobic; it is not being a mean or bad person.”

Trump’s warning to Europe

This comes a day after US President Trump’s UN General Assembly address, in which ‘uncontrolled migration’ to Europe was one of his main talking points.

“Your countries are being destroyed. Europe is in serious trouble. They’ve been invaded a force of illegal aliens like nobody has ever seen before,” Trump said.

“Every sovereign nation must have the right to control its own borders. You have the right to control your borders, as we do now, and to limit the sheer numbers of migrants entering your countries, paid for the people of that nation who built that country with their blood, sweat, tears, and money,” he added.

‘If you come to US illegally…’

The US president also spoke at length about the success his adminration had in controlling the flow of illegal immigrants to the US.

“On our southern border, we have successfully repelled a colossal invasion. For the last four months, that’s four months in a row, the number of illegal aliens admitted and entering our country has been zero,” Trump said.

“Our message is very simple: if you come illegally into the United States, you’re going to jail, or you’re going back to where you came from, or perhaps even further than that,” Trump said, referring to his deportation policy.
