Vidya Balan reveals real reason she decided to tie the knot: ‘I never wanted to get married; Siddharth changed that’ | Feelings News

Vidya Balan and Siddharth Roy Kapur are happily married, but did you know that the Bollywood actor did not want to get hitched at all? What changed, you ask? In conversation with podcaster Raj Shamani on his show The Figuring Out Co, the Dirty Picture actor opened up about what got her to finally settle down.
“You know, I never wanted to get married. Siddharth changed that for me. I used to feel that getting married stops a girl from doing anything. She doesn’t have any freedom to do anything. Because that was how it was, right? Not just in my mother’s generation. Even then, largely when you looked at the world around you, women were not doing what they wanted to be doing. So I was like, I don’t want to get married.”
Talking about how her friends would talk about getting married or going on honeymoons, Balan revealed that she had never had such conversations. “They would talk, but I would just be lening. I was never interested in that.”

“We are products of our parents. But then I think it’s the people who come into your life that shape you, especially your significant other. And I feel that so much of who I am today, of how I look at things, has to do with who I am with,” she added.

Like Balan said, choosing a life partner is a crucial decision that needs to be taken seriously. It impacts and influences various aspects of your life, such as happiness, career, quality of life, family, financial stability, and also your health.
According to Dr Sonal Anand, psychiatr at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, your decision has a severe impact on your entire life. “It will decide the type of person you choose as your life partner, who will accompany you through the ups and downs in your life. This is why it becomes vital to make a wise decision with critical thinking to avoid future regrets,” she said, adding that you must take your time with it. Being in a hurry will not only affect your overall decision but also lead you to choose the wrong partner.
What should you look for in a life partner?
“Choose someone who accepts you the way you are and gives the same effort to ease up your mental load. It is essential to first determine your expectations of your partner. Always go with your gut feeling, if you feel unsure or doubtful about a person, then immediately share your concern with your family members, and loved ones,” shared Dr Anand.Story continues below this ad
And before making any decision, she advised doing background research: how is their behavioural pattern, whether they get easily hyper, frustrated, or violent, and how their family members are — as you are going to spend most of your time with them. “Check if there is any trace of a criminal record to ensure your safety. Choose wisely and calmly, as this one single decision can decide where your life steers towards,” added Dr Anand.
