Albania’s Prime Miner Edi Rama has announced that Diella, the country’s AI-generated Miner of State for Artificial Intelligence, is “pregnant” with 83 digital assants one for each Social Party member of parliament.

Speaking at the Global Dialogue (BGD) in Berlin, Rama said: “We took quite a risk today with Diella here and we did very well. So for the first time Diella is pregnant and with 83 children.”

He explained the role of the assants, adding: “Each one… will serve as an assant for them who will participate in parliamentary sessions, and will keep a record of everything that happens and will suggest members of parliament. These children will have the knowledge of their mother.”

Diella, whose name means “Sun” in Albanian, was appointed in September to oversee Albania’s public procurement system, with the goal of making it fully transparent and corruption-free. Rama said he expects the system to be fully operational the end of 2026.

“For example, if you go for coffee and forget to come back to work, this child will say what was said when you were not in the hall, and will say who you should counter-attack,” Rama explained.

First launched in January as a virtual assant on the e-Albania platform, Diella helps citizens and businesses access state documents. The AI miner is shown as a woman in traditional Albanian dress.

Albania is the first country to officially appoint an AI entity as a government miner. Unlike a human miner, Diella is entirely digital, composed of code and pixels, marking a horic step in integrating artificial intelligence into governance.
