All England Badminton 2024 Live, PV Sindhu vs An Se Young: India’s top shuttlers will be in action on Thursday at the prestigious All England Open badminton championships as the round of 16 stage gets underway with PV Sindhu’s marquee clash against world No 1 An Se Young. The spotlight will later be on Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who come into the event after winning the French Open title last week. They defeated the tricky pairing of Indonesian legends Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in straight games on Wednesday. Satwik-Chirag will take on another Indonesian pair, Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana, who were All England badminton open champions in 2022.
Meanwhile, first up, two-time Olympics medall Sindhu will face the toughest test there is in women’s singles currently. Sindhu trails Se Young 0-6 in their past meetings. The Korean has been in phenomenal form for more than a year and is the reigning champion as well.
Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa will be in action too later in the day.
Also in the fray will be Lakshya Sen, former runner-up who is unseeded at Birmingham this year. He beat young Dane leftie Magnus Johannesen, 21-14, 21-14 in an easy Round 1 clash to end up as the only Indian in Round 2 of men’s singles. Lakshya plays another Dane, a more compact, stubborn and quicker one, Anders Antonsen, seeded 4, who lost his first match of badminton World Tour 2024 season only last week. Meanwhile, Priyanshu Rajawat gave Chico Wardoyo a scare, before losing.
