Ranveer Singh film to open at Rs 25 crore

Dhurandhar Box Office Collection Prediction Day 1: Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar has dominated headlines for weeks—first for its controversy, then for its scale. The film sparked a storm when Major Mohit Sharma’s family objected to perceived similarities between the protagon and the decorated officer who died fighting militants in J&K in 2009. While that dispute now appears resolved with the Central Board of Film Certification giving the film a go-ahead, Dhurandhar continues to attract attention for another reason: at 214 minutes (3 hours, 34 minutes), it is the longest mainstream Hindi film in 17 years, since Jodhaa Akbar.
The film has also received an A certificate due to its graphically violent content, raising questions about its audience reach. But despite these hurdles, industry conversations suggest the buzz around Dhurandhar remains strong.
How strong is the Dhurandhar buzz, really?
To assess the film’s prospects, SCREEN spoke to veteran dributor Murlidhar Chhatwani, who remains bullish about its commercial potential. For him, the biggest factor driving interest is the credibility of director Aditya Dhar, best known for delivering URI: The Surgical Strike, a blockbuster that combined scale, emotion, and technical precision.
“We are expecting a Rs 25 crore-plus opening, even without a holiday release,” Chhatwani said, adding that he anticipates a late surge in advance bookings as release day approaches.
Early numbers support this optimism. According to Sacnilk, the film has already generated Rs 2.59 crore through organic advance bookings, rising to Rs 4.24 crore when blocked seats are included.

Will the A-certificate hurt Dhurandhar? Hory says no
While some trade watchers flagged the adult certification as a potential barrier—especially combined with the film’s length—others point to recent precedent.Story continues below this ad
Trade analyst Komal Nahta explained: “An A certificate may appear to be a deterrent, but hory shows that if the content is strong, it does not affect business. Animal was over three hours long and A-certified, yet ended up becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of the year. If a film engages you, length doesn’t matter.”
Show count signals high confidence
Industry confidence is also reflected in exhibitors’ support. Dhurandhar has secured nearly 8,000 shows on its opening day—an indicator usually reserved for titles with strong pre-release momentum.
This enthusiasm perss despite a turbulent phase in Ranveer Singh’s career, including the shelving of projects he once announced with fanfare, such as his collaboration with Prasanth Varma and the much-hyped Don 3.

Ranveer, like Ranbir Kapoor, takes his time and chooses one film at a time. That approach builds trust.”
Dhurandhar, also starring R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt and Akshaye Khanna, is all set to hit the theaters on December 5.
