Andre Onana makes two costly errors in 2-2 draw to Olympique Lyon

Andre Onana hasn’t had the best of times at Manchester United. The pressure on United’s most expensive keeper was tremendous heading into the Europa League Quarter-final against Olympique Lyon.
In a game that saw United fall behind, then take the lead and ultimately settle for a 2-2 draw, a significant proportion of the blame fell on Onana. The 29-year-old was to blame for both of the goals conceded his side, one from a set piece and the other, in the dying moments of second half injury time.
Ahead of the game, the United keeper and Lyon midfielder Nemanja Matic got into a battle of words, in which the latter said, “If you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United hory, you need to take care what you are talking about”. This came in response to Onana’s claim that the Red Devils are “way better” than their Europa League opponents.

While the first leg of the match up ended two goals apiece, Onana’s makes were highlighted in both the goals his side conceded. For the opener, Onana misjudged a free-kick sent in Thiago Almada. The looping ball into the danger area missed everyone, including the United keeper, who stood rooted to his spot up until the last second.
United dragged themselves back into the game thanks to Leny Yoro’s maiden goal for the club and substiute Joshua Zirkzee’s late header in the 88th minute.
With victory in sight, Onana made yet another error, this time giving Lyon forward Rayan Cherki an unmissable chance in front of goal. The French forward made no make in placing the ball past Onana, who failed to gather an initial grounded shot aimed right at him.
Following the full-time whle, Ruben Amorim, United boss, said, “If you look at the season I’ve made more makes than them. I’m really confident in Andre (Onana)”. The second leg at Old Trafford is scheduled for Friday, the 18th of April.
