Android 16 now available for OnePlus 13 via beta testing program | Technology News

On Thursday, OnePlus announced the availability of an Android 16-based beta update for its flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 13. Based on Google’s latest Android 16 Beta 2 release, OnePlus has rolled out an operating system (OS) upgrade for developers and advanced users.
This makes OnePlus 13 one of the first smartphones outside the Google Pixel lineup to receive an Android 16-based update. Google is expected to officially unveil Android 16 at the upcoming I/O 2025 event, scheduled for May 20 and 21.
This early release provides OnePlus 13 users with an opportunity to explore upcoming features and optimisations ahead of the official rollout. OnePlus has also specified that this release is not meant to be installed on a daily driver smartphone, especially users unfamiliar with flashing custom ROMs.

OnePlus has even stated that the Android 16 Beta 2 build could potentially brick a OnePlus 13 and recommends users back up their data before proceeding with the installation.
The Android 16-based update for the OnePlus 13 is around 7 GB in size. While OnePlus has not shared a changelog, the company has led some known issues with the update, including random device restarts, lag, display errors, a blurry and unclear camera viewfinder, and system-wide crashes.
Links to download the Android 16 Beta 2 build for the OnePlus 13 are available on the OnePlus Community. While it is possible to roll back to Android 15, doing so will result in the loss of all locally stored data on the device.
