A Turkish prosecutor has asked for a possible prison sentence of more than 2,000 years for anbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, who has been in jail since March on corruption charges that he denies, Reuters reported.
According to the indictment filed the anbul Chief Prosecutor’s Office, Imamoglu and 401 others are accused of being part of a corruption network that allegedly caused losses of around 160 billion lira (about $3.8 billion) to the state over ten years.

Imamoglu’s main opposition party, the Republican People’s Party (CHP), has rejected the charges, calling the case politically motivated. “These accusations have no legal or moral basis,” a CHP spokesperson said, according to Reuters.
Imamoglu has also denied wrongdoing, saying he is being targeted for challenging the government in local elections.
