Anjum Chopra demands consency in Indian women’s team’s fielding: ‘Off day has to be rare’ | Cricket News

Former Indian women’s cricketer Anjum Chopra has been critical of the team’s fielding. The 47-year-old would even go on to say the days when the team fields badly should be an “off-color day” but it is the other way around with this India team and when the team does field well everyone says ‘Wow how you fielded so well one day.’
“When you are playing international cricket, it goes without saying that you have to be consent. There are no two ways that you field well one day and you don’t field well the other day. The rarity needs to be that you had an off-color day,” Chopra was quoted IANS.
“It cannot be that you field well one day and we talk about ‘Wow how you fielded so well one day.’ So, that consency has to come. You can always drop a catch. But it’s like you pat your back and say, ‘Okay, it doesn’t matter next time’. Or you say, ‘this is becoming a little too consent and that’s not the way to go’, because we have already seen the result,” she added.
Team Head Coach Anmol Majumdar when took over the job would emphasize that fitness and fielding of players as the highest priority. “Fielding and fitness are of the highest priority. There is no compromise on fielding or fitness. There will be a lot of camps post this series — a lot of cricket will be played — at NCA or some other place,” he would say at the time.
However, in the recently concluded series against South Africa in Chennai the team’s fielding looked rusty. Dropped chances in games have presented South African batters with opportunities to capitalize and make substantial scores. With Asia Cup and T20 World Cup looming around the Indian team would be hoping to improve their performance on the field.
