Apoorva Mukhija a.k.a The Rebel Kid announces comeback on Instagram after India’s Got Latent row: ‘Don’t take the story away from the storyteller’ | Bollywood News
The Indian comedy sphere is going through a rough patch, to say the least. FIRs have been filed, venues have been vandalised and committees have been created ever since the YouTube show hosted comedian Samay Raina, India’s Got Latent, landed in a controversy. One of the people who was a part of the collateral damage was influencer Apoorva Mukhija, better known as The Rebel Kid. She has recently announced her comeback on Instagram with two separate posts.
The first post comes with a trigger warning, as it contains screenshots of threats of sexual violence levelled against Mukhija. She posted 19 screenshots, each containing multiple comments and posts, demeaning and attacking her character, with her caption reading ‘that’s not even 1%’. The comments on the post are supportive and filled with anger towards the actions and remarks of the people whose comments and posts are part of the carousel. Other influencers showed their solidarity and raised the question of cybersecurity.
The next post contains just one line, which says “Don’t take away the story from the storyteller,” with no caption. Earlier in the month Mukhija had removed all the posts from her Instagram.

India’s Got Latent Controversy
India’s Got Latent and the ‘judges’ featured on it landed in controversy after YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia posed a question to a fan. The comment triggered outrage, leading to multiple FIRs in Maharashtra and Assam against him and other panels, including Apoorva and Ashish Chanchlani. The matter was also heard in the Supreme Court, which allowed Allahabadia to resume his podcast while maintaining ‘morality and decency’.
Kunal Kamra is the latest in the line of comedians targeted for their material, as a FIR was filed against the comedian after he made jokes about the appearance of Mahrashtra’s deputy chief miner Eknath Shinde, and the venue where he recorded his show was vandalised Shiv Sena workers. Mumbai Police even went to an address where Kamra hadn’t lived in for over 10 years, and the comic later shared a 5-step guide on how to kill an art democratically.
Apoorva was last seen in the Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor starrer Nadaaniyan, which was again not safe from backlash but for different reasons altogether.
