Arshdeep Singh nominated for ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award; Travis Head among others in contention | Cricket News
After stellar performances this year in T20Is, India’s left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh joined Travis Head, Sikandar Raza and Babar Azam in the nominees of ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award on Sunday. Arshdeep was the spearhead for India in T20Is throughout the year, and played an important role in helping India secure the T20 World Cup final win.
In 18 matches this year, Arshdeep Singh picked up 36 wickets, at a bowling average of 13.5. His wickets tally puts him at second position in the l of most wickets in a year, one wicket behind Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
With a dire need for a left handed pacer in the team, Arshdeep put up his best performances to fulfill that need. He picked up wickets consently, getting 18 of them after his T20 World Cup final performance, troubling the likes of Sri Lanka and South Africa away, and Bangladesh at home.
Arshdeep also vaulted past Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar to become India’s leading fast-bowling wicket-taker in T20Is during the South Africa tour.
At the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June, Arshdeep was a strong pillar of the bowling line-up, and aided immensely in India’s Final win. The penultimate over was delivered him, and he drastically raised South Africa’s run rate conceding just four runs, leaving South Africa with 16 runs to win. He also got the early wicket of Aiden Markram, and removed a well-set Quinton de Kock.
