‘Our decisions are based on work’: Nobel panel president on award not going to Trump | World News

The Norwegian Nobel Committee declared Maria Corina Machado as the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday. Machado won the prize for her work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.
Responding to a question on US President Donald Trump not receiving the prize this year, Nobel Committee president Jorgen Watne Frydnes said: “In the long hory of the Nobel Peace Prize, this committee has seen any type of campaign, media tensions… we receive thousands of letters every year of people saying what peace means to them. This committee sits in a room filled with portraits of all laureates. It’s filled with courage and integrity. We base our decisions only on work and the will of Alfred Nobel.”
Trump has repeatedly expressed that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping “eight wars” in eight months.
