Ashwin claims 6-fer as India trounce Bangladesh 280 runs | Cricket News

Ravichandran Ashwin snapped six wickets in the second innings as India managed to clean up Bangladesh for 234 to clinch the first of two Tests 280 runs on Sunday.
Resuming the Test on Day 4 with the visitors on 158/4, Ashwin – who also scored a hundred in the first innings – broke the partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto (82) and Shakib Al Hasan (25) to open the floodgates.
From there (194), the visiting side were only able to add 40 runs for the remainder of their five wickets. Ravindra Jadeja also finished with three wickets in the second innings while Jasprit Bumrah had claimed the first wicket of the last innings on Saturday.
Earlier, Bangladesh had won the toss and opted to bowl first. A decision that paid early dividends with India losing three wickets (Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli) in the first session of the Test. While Yashasvi Jaiswal did get to his fifty, it was Ashwin and Jadeja’s partnership of 199 runs that stabilised the innings after the early blows.
For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud claimed a 5-fer in the first innings. In response with the bat though, they were only able to muster 149 runs before Jasprit Bumrah (4/50) led the host bowling attack.
Not enforcing follow on, India were able to extend their lead to 515 runs courtesy of twin hundreds from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant before declaring their innings on Day 3.
While Bangladesh did manage to get off to a strong start from their openers, the Indian bowlers did eventually manage to find their way back into the contest and demonstrate yet another strong display in a home Test match.

The two teams will next lock horns in Kanpur starting September 27, Friday.
