Asia Cup 2023: Showers predicted for India vs Sri Lanka game | Cricket News

According to the weather forecast, India’s Asia Cup match against Sri Lanka  on Tuesday could witness rain breaks as showers are predicted between 2-3 pm and after 9 pm. Unlike the past few days where the heat levels and humidity were on the higher side, Tuesday morning was pleasant as the overhead conditions remained a bit gloomy.
On Monday the forecast predicted for the worst with 100 per cent chance of rain from Tuesday morning. But the weather here has improved a bit and according to the local MET department there is a possibility of showers in the afternoon and in the late evening. In such a case a full 50-over contest may not be possible.  However even in case of heavy rains, the groundstaff at R Premadasa Stadium have shown they can get the outfield ready in about an hour. The city of Colombo, which is used to witnessing showers in the month of September, has been receiving heavy rainfall over the past 10 days. It has led to the groundstaff at the R Premadasa Stadium hire around 140 personnel to take care of the outfield conditions with the groundstaff working around 18 hours a day to get the Asia Cup going.
Both India and Sri Lanka already have a win each in the Super 4 stage and another victory could seal their passage to the final. After thumping Pakan on Monday 228-runs, India are taking the field again on Tuesday which would test their players fitness in these conditions. With the big win over Pakan taking their net run rate to 4.560, India have a bit of breathing space even in the case of a washout here. With a game against Bangladesh set to be played on Friday, even winning one of the two matches will get their job done.

But first up India run into a Sri Lanka side that has won 13 consecutive matches on the trot. Depsite missing four of their first choice pacers, Sri Lanka have been on the money with the ball with Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana stepping up and leading their charge with the ball. The duo’s battle against the Indian top-order will virtually decide which way the game tilts.
