Asia Cup 2023: Super 4 games to remain in Colombo despite rain threat | Cricket News

With doubts surfacing owing to the incessant raining, The Indian Express has now learnt that the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 games – originally scheduled to be played in Colombo – shall remain in the Sri Lankan capital.
The Sri Lankan leg of the ongoing tournament has been marred rain with the highly anticipated India-Pakan being washed out on Saturday and the men in blue’s game against Nepal being cut short to a 23-overs chase on Monday.
Over the weekend and Monday, Colombo has been witnessing heavy rainfall, which had prompted the ACC to explore other options to reduce matches being affected rain. But it seems like the governing body have decided to pers with the R Premadasa Stadium, which is also scheduled to host the final, as their key venue.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Asian Cricket Council chief and the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah also reverted back to comments made the former Pakan Cricket Board chief Najam Sethi on why the competition wasn’t moved to the UAE instead of Sri Lanka. Most Read

“The Asia Cup 2022 edition was played in the UAE in the T20 format,” Shah said in a statement. “It’s important to emphasize that the dynamics of a T20 tournament cannot be directly compared to those of a 100-over One-day format. In this context, ACC members received feedback from their respective high-performance teams, expressing concerns about playing One-day matches in the UAE in the month of September. Such a schedule could have potentially led to player fatigue and an increased risk of injuries, particularly right before the all-important ICC Cricket World Cup.”
Furthermore, he added that the decision to not host all the games of the ongoing continental tournament in Pakan was one that came in consensus with the stakeholders involved.
