Asia Cup Final: BCCI confirm Washington Sundar as a replacement for Axar Patel | Cricket News

India were dealt a personnel blow ahead of the 2023 Asia Cup final with all-rounder Axar Patel being ruled out of selection for the summit clash against Sri Lanka on Sunday.
A BCCI statement confirmed that Axar, who had almost stitched an India win in a thrilling Super 4 game on Friday, picked a ‘ left quadriceps strain’ during the match against Bangladesh.
In his stead, the Indian cricket board has announced Washington Sunday as his replacement. The all-rounder, who has also been named in the Asian Games squad, arrived in the Sri Lankan capital on Saturday. Most Read

Axar had suffered a couple of blows while batting against Bangladesh on Friday night and needed medical help on a couple of occasions.
Coming in to bat at number eight, Axar would score 42 runs off 34 deliveries, but fell in the penultimate over as India missed out on a fourth straight win in the ongoing tournament with Bangladesh besting the men in blue six runs.

The inclusion of Sundar in the squad is unlikely to guarantee his place in the starting XI. Against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj predicted to step back in the lineup, having been rested in the previous Super 4 game.
