India climbed into the fourth spot in the medals standings of the Asian Games on Day 6 of Hangzhou 2023. Indian athletes have now claimed 32 medals, eight of which are gold. So far in Hangzhou 2023, India’s golds have come from three sports: cricket, shooting and equestrian.
Eight sports — cricket, shooting, wushu, sailing, rowing, tennis, equestrian, squash — have contributed to that tally with the majority coming from shooting.
So far, Aishwary Pratap Singh (four medals, two of which were gold) and Esha Singh (one gold, three silver) are India’s top medal earners at Hangzhou.
At the last Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018, Indians had returned with a haul of 70 medals, which was a record medal tally which included 16 golds.

India is one of seven countries to have competed at every edition of the Asian Games. But despite that, their best gold medal haul of 15 golds before Jakarta 2018’s 16 golds came way back in the inaugural Asian Games in 1951.
Athletics has traditionally been the strongest source of medals for India. The Closing Ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023 will be held on October 8.
