At Kamal Nath’s swearing-in ceremony, ex-CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan emerges as the real winner
Bhopal: The former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh and BJP’s MP Shivraj Singh Chouhan was applauded for his sportsmanship during the swearing-in ceremony of Kamal Nath.
The three-time chief minister of the state actively participated in the event and presented a graceful front. He was seen with Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath with arms raised in elation.
While Nath was taking oath as the new Chief Minister, his colleagues Sajjan Kumar was awarded life sentence by the High Court for his involvement in the anti-Sikh riots in 1984. Kamal Nath is also said to have been a part of the riots according to the Bharatiya Janata Party. “It is sad that the ’84 judgement has come on a day when a senior leader who Sikhs believe to be behind riots, is being made a minister,” said union finance minister Arun Jaitley.
However, Nath has denied any links with the Sikh riots of 1984 and has said that there is no police case against him. After the Assembly poll results, Shivraj Singh Chouhan took sole responsibility for BJP’s defeat in the heartland state of India. In the oath-taking ceremony, Chouhan was seen being amicable with the opposition leaders, exhibiting gracefulness.
“Proud of Shivraj Singh Chauhan. Spirited fight. More votes; short of a majority in a hung house; but no temptation for harakiri; graceful exit by submitting resignation. He won d hearts even in party’s sad electoral loss”, Senior BJP leader Ram Madhav tweeted.
The Congress emerged as the single largest party and was able to form the government in Madhya Pradesh after the support of Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party.
