At least 5 people injured in stabbing in Netherlands’ Amsterdam, suspect arrested | World News

In a stabbing incident reported in Netherlands’ central Amsterdam on Thursday, at least five people were reported to have been wounded and the main suspect was taken into custody the police, authorities said.
The stabbing took place near Dam Square in central Amsterdam. Netherlands police said that helicopters were deployed in the area and the entire region had been cordoned off, including the Dam Square.

“A motive is currently still unclear, but part of our investigation,” the Dutch police said in a post on social media.

Amsterdam’s local media reported that a city council meeting, which was underway including Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema, was interrupted due to the stabbing incident.
The extent of injury to those wounded were not available at the moment. Videos posted on social media showed emergency vehicles and helicopters in front of the Royal Palace in Dam Square, as the area was cordoned-off, BBC reported.
