Badminton Asia Championships 2025: Treesa/Gayatri pull out as Indian shuttlers look to start well

Indian shuttlers will try to overcome the string of poor performances since the start of the season at the Badminton Asia Championships starting tomorrow in Ningbo, China.
Among top Indian shuttlers, Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, PV Sindhu will lead the challenge while top Indian men’s doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will miss the tournament along with women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand who withdrew from the tournament recently.
In the men’s singles, HS Prannoy will face Chinese shuttler Lu Guang Zu in the first round while Lakshya will start against Chinese Taipei shuttler Chia Hao Lee. Priyanshu Rajawat will face Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand while Kiran George will face qualifier from Group D.

PV Sindhu will kick off her women’s singles campaign against Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo of Indonesia while Malvika Bansod will face Fang Jie Gao of China. Aakarshi Kashyap will be up against second-seed Han Yue of China and youngster Anupama Upadhyaya will face experienced Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand.
In the absence of Satwik-Chirag in the men’s doubles, India will be represented the unheralded duo of Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi, along with Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratheek K.
With Treesa and Gayatri withdrawing from the tournament, Shruti Mishra and Priya Konjengbam remain the only Indian women’s pair in the tournament.
The mixed doubles event will feature Rohan Kapoor/Ruthvika Shivani Gadde, Sathish Karunakaran/Aadya Variyath, Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto, and Ashith Surya/Amrutha Pramuthesh.Story continues below this ad
