It was a first-ever defeat for Sindhu against Aya Ohori in 14 meetings but the Indians would bounce back from the upset. The double pair of Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand defeated world No 6 Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida 21-17, 16-21; 22-20 to restore parity on the scoreboard followed Ashmita Chaliha producing an upset of her own, beating the former world champion Nozomi Okuhara in straight games 21-17, 21-14. In the second doubles game, Sindhu and Ashwini Ponnappa would lose to the duo of Rena Miyaura and Ayako Sakuramoto 14-21, 11-21.With the scorecard stuck at 2-2, it went down to Anmol Kharb, who showed nerves of steel to defeat top-30 player Natsuki Nidaira and seal the final berth.
