BAFTA Awards 2025 Full Winners L: All We Imagine As Light loses to Emilia Pérez yet again; Conclave, The Brutal clinch top honours | Hollywood News

78th British Academy Film Awards 2025 Full Winners L: In yet another setback for director Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light, which had been dominating recent film festivals and securing top honours, it lost the BAFTA for Best Film Not in the English Language to the French musical crime drama Emilia Pérez. All We Imagine As Light was only the seventh Indian film ever nominated in this category and the first in over a decade since Ritesh Batra’s The Lunchbox (2013), starring Irrfan Khan and Nimrat Kaur. This marks the third time this year that Payal’s film has been bested Emilia Pérez in major award categories. Earlier, it lost the Best Foreign Language Film award to the French title at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards. While Payal also made hory as the first Indian filmmaker to be nominated for Best Director for an Indian film at the same event, she ultimately fell short of a win. Earlier this month, All We Imagine As Light once again faced disappointment as Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez claimed the Best Foreign Language Film award at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.

Starring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam and Hridhu Haroon, All We Imagine As Light follows two Malayali nurses in Mumbai and their friendships. The film previously made hory as the first from India to win the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May last year.
Despite opening to mixed responses, Emilia Pérez has been dominating the film awards season this time, even becoming the only non-English film to earn 13 Academy Award nominations. However, the film has also been at the centre of controversy over its lead star Karla Sofia Gascón’s old tweets, which many felt were Islamophobic and rac. At the 78th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), Emilia Pérez also won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Zoe Saldaña. Meanwhile, Edward Berger’s political thriller Conclave and Brady Corbet’s epic period drama The Brutal emerged as the biggest winners of the night, each taking home four awards.
