Bail bond racket busted, 10 arrested
BHOPAL:The police have busted a gang involved in forging documents used in carrying out bail bond formalities in district courts across Madhya Pradesh. Ten persons have been arrested and forged land record documents and seals of officers of 42 districts recovered from them, cops said on Thursday.
According to DIG Dharmendra Choudhary, the first arrest was made when the police were investigating a case of abetment to suicide registered at Ratibad police station in the city.
A former contractual employee of BMC, Deepak Verma, had committed suicide on March 24 and had left behind a suicide note in which he had mentioned about Sudhakar Bokade, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar and two others.
When Bokade was arrested, the police recovered forged seals and land records in bulk from his possession. Forms of PM Housing Scheme, forged ration cards and land deeds (pattas) were also found in Bokade’s possession and he claimed that he had provided these forged documents to Imran alias Bablu Chikna alias Yousuf, a resident of Jehangirabad, said Choudhary.
On Wednesday, a police team nabbed Chikna, who used to arrange fake guarantors in the court and assist in completing bail formalities after charging 20 per cent of the bail amount.
During interrogation, Chikna spilt the beans about organized gangs operating in Bhopal and Jabalpur. On information provided by Bokade and Chikna, the police arrested four persons whose photographs were fixed on fake land records to complete bail bond formalities in courts, the DIG said.
Suspecting a scam, the police then reviewed more than half-a-dozen similar fraud cases, which were pending at MP Nagar police station. A team was formed to arrest the accused.
A gang member, Safia, was arrested from Jabalpur. Safia had allegedly provided forged land records (plain and printed) to fake guarantors. The police recovered five plain land records from her. Based on Safia’s information, Ashraf alias Babua was also arrested from Jabalpur. Ashraf used to complete the forged land records by entering details and putting a seal on them to give them an authentic look.
“Seals of officials of more than 42 districts and 28 forged land records used in number of under trial cases pending before courts were recovered from Ashraf’s possession,” DIG said.
The cops arrested another accused K Gupta from Jabalpur. Five photocopies of front pages of forged land records and 69 copies of land record pages were found in his possession. Gupta used to supply raw materials to prepare the fake records. Naki Ansari, who used to bind forged land records too was nabbed from Jabalpur.
A numbering machine and front cover of 24 land records along with 140 pages were recovered from Ansari’s possession.
