Bangladesh beat Pakan six wickets, clinch a horic away series win | Cricket News
Bangladesh have regered a rare Test series sweep on Tuesday as it pursued back-to-back victories in Pakan after they humbled the home team six wickets in the second Test at Rawalpindi. Bangladesh notched an epic 10-wicket win in the first Test at the same venue.
Bangladesh has won just one bilateral test series of two or more tests away from home — in the West Indies in 2009. Both Bangladesh and Pakan are languishing at No. 7 and No. 8 in the World Test Championship standings.
Zakir Hasan (40), Najmul Hossain Shanto (38) and Mominul Haq (34) chipped in with useful cameos as Bangladesh chased down the 185-run victory target with more than a session left in the game. The visitors won the opening test 10 wickets in their first ever test victory against Pakan.
Bangaldesh did lost few quick wickets but the senior pros Mushfiqur Rahim (22 not out) and Shakib Al Hasan (21 not out) forged a patient 32-run stand for the fifth wicket to take them home.
For Pakan, Mir Hamza(1/46), Khurram Shahzad (1/40), Abrar Ahmed (1/40) and Salman Agha (1/17) shared a wicket apiece.
Bangladesh was 26-6 in the first innings but Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz led a gallant recovery.
Fast bowlers Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed dismissed Pakan for 172 in the second innings to leave Bangladesh a victory target of 184 in four sessions.
Bangladesh extended Pakan’s miserable home record in tests to 10 matches without a win. Pakan’s last home win was in December 2021 against South Africa at Rawalpindi. Shan Masood has suffered a second consecutive clean sweep since he was elevated to the test skipper last year, having lost to Australia 3-0.
