Soon after Pope Francis passed away Monday, world leaders came forward to pay glowing tributes to the departed supreme pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church. The first-ever Latin American pontiff was 88 and suffering from prolonged illness.
‘His affection for people of India…’: PM Modi
India’s Prime Miner Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and remembered the Pope as being a “beacon of compassion, humility and spiritual courage”. “I fondly recall my meetings with him and was greatly inspired his commitment to inclusive and all-round development. His affection for the people of India will always be cherished. May his soul find eternal peace in God’s embrace,” he wrote in a post on X.
‘Below homily he gave in the very early days of COVID’: JD Vance

US Vice President JD Vance who met briefly with Pope Francis on Sunday, also took to X to express his condolences.
“I just learned of the passing of Pope Francis. My heart goes out to the millions of Chrians all over the world who loved him. I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill. But I’ll always remember him for the below homily he gave in the very early days of COVID. It was really quite beautiful. May God rest his soul,” Vance wrote in a post on X. He is currently in India on a four-day official visit. On Sunday, he met with Pope to exchange Easter greetings, after they got into a long-dance tangle over the Trump adminration’s migrant deportation plans.
