Before Bayern Munich vs Manchester United, Erik ten Hag talks about failure to sign Harry Kane | Football News

Harry Kane was one of the most sought-after strikers in the world during the summer transfer window of 2023. The England captain had expressed his desire to leave Tottenham Hotspur in search of trophies, and Manchester United were one of the clubs most interested in signing him.
However, a move to Old Trafford failed to materialize, with Kane eventually joining Bayern Munich.
Now as the two teams lock horns in the UEFA Champions League, United head coach Erik Ten Hag was asked if he has any regrets about not signing the England captain, he replied: “No. I think we’ve discussed it.”
“We are happy with Rasmus. In the first game, he was injured. He played against Arsenal, he’s had a start (against Brighton), and now we have to integrate him in the team. You can see he’s a big talent.”
United were operating under tighter financial constraints than in previous years due to stricter financial fair play rulings. This meant that they were unable to afford Kane’s high transfer fee and wages.
Tottenham were also reluctant to sell Kane to a Premier League rivaMost Read

Meanwhile, United will be without the services of Harry Maguire.

“Harry had some complaints and we have to see how bad it is. He finished training but was not good enough to travel. Injuries always come in top football because we’re living on the edge,” said Ten Hag.
On the clash between the heavyweights, the United coach said: “We have to step up in certain levels for 90-plus minutes. That is the demand on us.”
