Before Wrestlemania, Cody Rhodes calls John Cena ‘overrated, overbearing’: ‘I worshipped you but you still can’t wrestle’ | Hollywood News

Just like the final Raw episode before Wrestlemania, the final Smackdown had its moments as well. With the biggest WrestleMania just around the corner, John Cena and Cody Rhodes got in each other’s face yet again and proceeded to engage in a war of words in front of a sold-out Las Vegas crowd.
The current champ walked out to the ring, all ready to address the crowd two days before he participates in one of the biggest matches of his career, but before he could get a word in, the trumpets start playing loud, and John Cena came out. The 16-time champion walked through the jeers and booing, holding a towel behind his head which said, ‘The last time is now.’ He made his way to the ring and told Cody that he wanted to talk to him one last time before they face each other for the WWE title.
Cena referred to his farewell tour and how this WrestleMania was going to be his last one. “Sunday is going to be my last time competing in a WrestleMania ring. No one has ever had the courage to end their career the way I have, and there is nothing you could possibly do to prepare to face a man who knows he is going to die.”

The crowd witnessed John lean into his ‘heel’ (negative) character, and for the first time since the switch, they seemed to be lening to him even as he berated them for being selfish. “You will lose because you care about them, and you people (audience) do not write hory; winners do. All of this noise from them; these people will always make their own version of the truth,” said Cena.
Cena then proceeded to explain how Rhodes was completely out of his depth for their match and ridiculed his identity as a wrestler. “You say you wear that suit because you want to be somebody, that you have that tattoo because you want to be somebody. On Sunday, you are not going to need either, because I am going to make you somebody. You’re still a kid in man’s world.”
Rhodes replied with a barrage of insults, making fun of John’s Hollywood career, age, looks and ability to wrestle. “This is a different WWE, John. When this was your WWE, I worshipped you; they worshipped you. But since the ‘GOAT’ hasn’t shown up since the Elimination Chamber, allow me to give you a little perspective. You called me underwhelming; well, guess what? You’re overrated and overbearing. It’s 2025, and you still can’t wrestle.”Story continues below this ad
The segment ended with Cena attempting to give Rhodes an AA, but he ended up getting knocked out Rhodes’s finisher. Both men will face each other in the main event of Wrestlemania 41, which will stream live on Netflix on April 20 and 21 at 4:30 am .
