Ben Stokes shares photo of him travelling to join Chennai Super Kings for IPL
England’s Ben Stokes on Thursday shared a photo with his bags packed on Instagram which was captioned, “See You Soon @chennaiipl”
Stokes was signed the Chennai Super Kings in the mini auction last year for an eye watering 16.25 crore but there were reports that he might not be with the franchise for the entirety of the IPL in order to begin preparation for the Ashes.
Stokes is also dealing with a knee injury that he suffered against New Zealand and while Stokes has committed to play for Chennai, it is understood that a clear picture on his full availability will only emerge after he joins the team.
While there have been calls for Stokes to sit out the IPL, England coach Brendon McCullum is of the opinion that playing in the IPL will not jeopardise Stokes’ chances of playing in the Ashes.
“I don’t think he’s jeopardising it. The Chennai set-up is excellent in looking after their players and they’ve a very good medical team and he will be well looked after,” McCullum was quoted as saying ESPNcricinfo.
“The skipper has a strong mind and he knows how to get right for the big moments. His life is that, right? So I don’t have any concerns,” he added
The IPL will be held from March 31 to May 28, while England’s first Test of the summer against Ireland at Lord’s begins on June 1.
Chennai will open their campaign against reigning champions Gujarat Titans on March 31.
