Prime Miner Benjamin Netanyahu said that the strikes were aimed at Iran’s main nuclear enrichment facility, nuclear scients and ballic missile programme, besides top military facilities. Following the strikes, Israel has closed its airspace anticipating a retaliatory attack.
What has Iran said? Iranian state television said that the head of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard is feared dead after the Israeli attack, news agency AP reported. The state television was also broadcasting footage from the Mahalati complex where military commanders live and showing buildings still on fire.
What now? The strikes have raised fears of the long-simmering conflict between the two countries escalating into a war. The latest development comes a day after the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors declared that Iran was non-compliant with its non-proliferation obligations — a first such resolution in two decades.
