Bhawantar: Congress protests at mandi

BHOPAL: Congress has demanded to scrap the Bhawantar Bhugtan Yojana (BBY) and said if the government really wants to help the farmers, it should make a payment of Rs 500 bonus on all kharif crops.
Congress alleged that BBY is a bid to harass farmers and they are running from pillar to post to get cash payment from traders.
The district rural unit of Congress alongwith a group of farmers held demonstration at the Bhopal mandi on Monday. Avnish Bhargawa, president, said, “We wanted to talk with the farmers but the administration did not allow us to enter the mandi premises. Though we were not permitted to demonstrate, we took out a rally and raised slogans against Bhawantar scheme and demanded justice to farmers.”
He said that government should start procuring soyabean at krishi upaj mandis or the cooperative societies. It should pay minimum support price for kharif crops. “Congress has sought an inquiry into the decline in kharif production. Claims for crop insurance of 2016 should be deposited in famers’ accounts,” he added.
