Watch: Virat Kohli celebrates after hitting his first boundary on Day 3

It took Virat Kohli 81 balls to hit his first boundary and celebrated it in style punching in the air with a jubilation and relief.
Kohli was kept quiet the West Indies bowlers and the former Indian captain got no easy pickings throughout his stay at the crease on Day 3 of the first Test match. stumps, he’d used up 96 balls to make 36 without any trouble.

The first boundary of Kohli’s innings finally came in the 109th over, when he played a trademark cover drive off Jomel Warrican. The shot also helped India cross the 300-run mark. Kohli’s celebration left commentators in splits.

“Gets it through the gap for one of the typical … Virat Kohli shouts and he punches in the air as he gets a boundary,” Ian Bishop said on commentary.
West Indies could prise out only two wickets on a typically slow Windsor Park pitch despite bowling tight, waiting 20 overs to take the new ball, and employing nine players to bowl.
Jaiswal and Rohit were restricted to 66 runs in 32 overs in the first session. After lunch, Jaiswal and Rohit showed more intent without really getting their timing right. During their 229-run opening wicket stand between Rohit and Jaiswal was also India’s highest opening partnership outside Asia. They clipsed the 213 Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan in 1979 against England at the Oval.

India added 99 runs in the middle session but after tea only 67 runs in 32 overs.
Jaiswal carried his bat through the day to be 143 not out on debut. He and Rohit moved their opening partnership from 80 overnight to 229.
Even so, India crawled to stumps on 312-2. Virat Kohli was with Jaiswal at 36 not out.
