Brother of Pakani gangster Uzair Baloch critically injured in shooting in Karachi | World News

2 min readJul 31, 2026 11:25 AM Zubair Baloch, the brother of Uzair Baloch, a Pakani gangster and the chief of the defunct People’s Amn Committee was critically injured after being shot in Karachi’s Lyari in Pakan on Thursday evening. Two passers were also injured during the incident.
As per a report the Dawn, the police said that Zubair Baloch was taken to the Civil Hospital in Karachi after he was shot. He sustained injuries on his chest and abdomen and was undergoing surgery. A social activ told Dawn that the attackers had covered their faces and fled when a near shopkeeper returned fire.
South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that  Zubair Baloch was sitting outside his residence in Singu Lane, Lyari, when armed suspects on a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled the spot. The DIG said Zubair had been arrested in seven criminal cases in 2012 and was released in January 2025. The police is investigating the incident from multiple angles, including possible gang rivalry and personal enmity, says Dawn.
Lyari residents fear return of gang violence after Zubair’s killing
A social activ from Lyari told Dawn that Zubair Baloch had joined a “political party” a few months ago and had raised its flags in the area. The activ also said there were rumours in Lyari that some gangsters who had fled to Dubai and Iran after the ‘Karachi operation’ had returned following the US-Iran war. Residents in the area are reportedly worried about a possible revival of gang wars.
Uzair Baloch’s bail pleas rejected in seven cases
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in March in Pakan rejected the bail applications of Uzair Baloch in seven cases related to murder, police encounters and possession of explosives. Uzair Baloch and others were accused of attacking law enforcement personnel with firearms and explosives in 2012 under the jurisdiction of Kalakot police station. A court convicted Uzair Baloch of espionage and sentenced him to 12 years in prison in April 2020.
