The Buchi Babu Trophy 2024 is scheduled to be held ahead of the senior men’s domestic cricket season, starting August 15 in Tamil Nadu.
Hosted annually in the lead-up to the domestic cricket season, the Buchi Babu Trophy returned after a six-year hiatus last year. Considered to be one of the oldest-running cricket tournaments in India, the tournament is named after Mothavarapu Venkata Mahipathi Naidu, popularly known as Buchi Babu Naidu, a pioneer of cricket in Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) hosts the invitational tournament, slated to be held at four venues this season.
The tournament will also have several India stars such as Suryakumar Yadav, Sarfaraz Khan, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan representing their respective state teams.
Buchi Babu Trophy 2024: Formats, teams and schedule
Twelve teams will be separated into four groups. 10 state teams, including Railways, will feature in the tournament besides two sides from Tamil Nadu — the (TNCA) President’s XI and TNCA XI. The matches will follow a four-day format in the lead-up to the Duleep Trophy in September and the Ranji Trophy which will begin in October. Madhya Pradesh are the defending champion, having beaten Delhi in the final last year.
