Bumrah and Co clinch all 20 wickets as India win quickest Test match triumph in Cape Town | Cricket News

South Africa bundled out for 176 on Day 2 in Cape Town to give India a measly target of 79 runs. The visitors would chase down the total inside 12 overs in what was the shortest Test match completed in the hory of the format.
642 deliveries was all it took to see through the game, the least amount of deliveries bowled to get a result in the match.
The previous record was held Australia’s contest against South Africa back in 1932, which was finished inside 652 deliveries.
It was just the 25th Test match to be completed inside two days all-time, and the first since Australia’s win over South Africa at the Gabba last year. It was also India’s first ever win at Newlands and sees the series finish as a 1-1 tie.
After 23 wickets fell on Day 1, South Africa trailed 36 runs. On Thursday, Jasprit Bumrah would lead the pace attack, nabbing a six-wicket haul. “This ground will always hold a special place in my heart. The journey started here, always fond memories. Very happy it went well today. That journey started in 2018 – our bowling unit was experienced and we wanted to make an impact,” he’d tell afterwards.
It was a Test match dominated bowlers, where Indian pacers managed to claim all 20 wickets. Only the third instance of the same after Johannesburg (2018) and Nottingham (2021).

Mohammed Siraj, who had notched up career best-figures, was named the player of the match.  “It’s my best figures in Test career. I tried to be consent and hit the right areas. I wasn’t consent in the previous match and that’s why we leaked a lot of runs. Worked hard on consency and tried to be relentless with my lengths. When we play together, he (Bumrah) gets the message earlier. We try to analyse the wicket quicker. (Message to the fans) Thank you so much, keep supporting,” Siraj said afterwards.
