Can Manchester United get relegated from the Premier League this season? | Football News

Ruben Amorim and Manchester United have been breaking record after record this season, with the only catch being that these milestones are not honorifics, but rather, the opposite. With just 10 wins and 15 losses 33 games into the season, the club is going through its worst season in Premier League hory. Back in January, club boss Ruben Amorim called his side as being the ‘worst side’ in club hory. Only one thing could make his claim come to life – Premier League relegation.
The losses continue
With the club’s recent form spiraling downward, it is to be seen whether Amorim can turn the tide in the final games and attempt for a finish in or near the 10th place mark. The Red Devils’ most recent game in the English top flight ended in defeat, as a 1-0 score aga Wolves meant that the club is now winless in the competition since their 3-0 win over Leicester City in March.
A wasteful United attack that failed to capitalize on chances paved the way for Wolves to snatch all three points with a spectacular free-kick goal in the 77th minute. In a desperate attempt to prevent Matheus Cunha from running at Andre Onana, Chrian Eriksen brought down the Brazilian. The resultant free-kick was converted in supreme fashion Pablo Sarabia, whose kick swerved above the wall and found the top right corner. The win also meant that Wolves completed the League double over United for the first time since 1979/80.

Can Manchester United get relegated this season?
Even though United is currently in 14th position in the Premier League and have just 38 points to show for a disastrous season, it is mathematically impossible for the club to drop down to the EFL Championship. The clubs that end the season in 18th,19th and 20th spots are automatically demoted to the 2nd tier of English football. A quick look at the League table shows that the side in 18th – Ipswich Town – with 21 points, cannot overtake United even if the Red Devils lose all their remaining games and Ipswich wins their last six fixtures. This also ensures mathematical safety for Tottenham Hotspur, who are in 16th position with 37 points.
United was last relegated from the Premier League in the 1973-74 season.
