Canada Parliament lockdown ends after man arrested for barricading himself inside | World News

The Canadian authorities locked down the Parliament in the capital of Ottawa on Saturday after a man barricaded himself in the East Block section, the Ottawa police said.
The Parliamentary Protective Service issued warnings on Saturday to avoid the East Block section, which comprises parliamentary offices, and seek shelter in the nearest room or structure, lock the doors and hide accordingly, as the operation is underway.
Ottawa Police in a social media post had said a “barricaded man is in the area of East Block” and urged people to stay away from the area until further notice, and informed that there were no reports of injuries.

The police announced that “There is a large police presence in the area. The east block has been evacuated. There are no known injuries and police continue to deal with an individual in this ongoing incident that began just before 3 pm.”

Ottawa police Inspector Mark Bouwmeester told reporters that the man gained “unauthorized access” into Parliament Hill’s East Block and the circumstances of the incident were being considered suspicious.

Saturday night around 10:39pm (local time), the Ottawa police informed that the incident of man barricading inside the Parliament Hill’s East Block had come to a peaceful end and one man was in custody.

The Ottawa police in a post on X said, “One man is in custody. The Ottawa police criminal investigation is ongoing and an update will be provided in the morning. We thank the public for its cooperation.”
A dozen vehicles from the Parliamentary Protective Service and Ottawa Police surrounded the Parliament’s East Block area earlier, where the man had entered and barricaded himself.
