Canadian Foreign Miner Anita Anand reached New Delhi, marking her first official trip to India since taking office earlier this year.

During her visit, Anand will hold talks with External Affairs Miner S Jaishankar and Commerce Miner Piyush Goyal, as both countries explore a framework for strategic cooperation in trade, energy, and security, according to the Canadian government. She will also visit Mumbai to meet Canadian and Indian businesses involved in investment and job creation.

The visit comes shortly after Canada’s National Security Advisor Nathalie Drouin met Indian counterpart Ajit Doval amid renewed momentum. This followed tensions under former Prime Miner Justin Trudeau, who had alleged an Indian link to the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a claim India called “absurd.” Relations began to reset after Trudeau’s successor Mark Carney took office, with both countries now posting their high commissioners and reviving several bilateral mechanisms.
After India, Anand will travel to Singapore and China to strengthen Canada’s ties with key partners in Asia, including discussions on the Canada-China Strategic Partnership, according to the Canadian government statement.
This visit is expected to reinforce the ongoing dialogue between India and Canada and support cooperation across multiple sectors.
