Awareness, not law needed to check population: Baghel

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday said awareness about small families and not legal provisions can help control the population explosion.

The statement came after the Uttar Pradesh government came up with a new population policy which bars persons with more than two children from contesting local body elections, getting subsidies and getting promoted in government service. Talking to the media at the Raipur airport before leaving for Nagpur, Baghel said the BJP was only doing politics and their intension is to polarize voters, not to control the population.

“If the BJP had supported the vasectomy drive launched by the Congress in the 70s, the situation might have different,” he said

“If the RSS had supported the population control policy of the Congress, the situation could have been controlled.”

The Chief Minister accused the Modi government of being insensitive vis-a-vis the all around price hike that he said had caused suffering to the people.

“The BJP has failed to govern properly and the current financial crisis is due to wrong policies like demonetization, GST and imposition of lockdown,” he said.
