Charlotte Edwards says helping Mumbai Indians to inaugural WPL title was ‘one of greatest achievements of her career’
Coach of the Mumbai Indians women’s team, Charlotte Edwards, said that helping the franchise win the inaugural Women’s Premier League title was “one of the greatest achievements of her career”.
Mumbai beat Delhi Capitals seven wickets in an action-packed game at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium. Batting first, Delhi had managed to score 131 runs with skipper Meg Lanning top scoring with 35 runs before she was run out, and Shikha Pandey scoring an unbeaten 27. Issy Wong and Hayley Matthews had both claimed three wickets each while Amelia Kerr chipped in with two more. In reply, Nat Sciver-Brunt played a mature innings of 60 (off 55 balls) while Harmanpreet Kaur played a solid knock of 37 before being run out.
“To win this is one of my greatest achievements in my career. We gave yesterday off to the players because they were tired. We had a team meeting but we kept it very relaxed. Harman’s (Harmanpreet Kaur) been amazing as a captain, it’s been a wonderful experience,” said Edwards.

She had joined forces with former India captain Jhulan Goswami, who was the mentor and bowling coach of the franchise, and former India all-rounder Devika Palshikar, who was the batting coach, in the coaching staff.

“All credit to the bowlers, thanks to Lotty (Charlotte). This was my first tournament as coach. The girls had a lot of faith and had the belief to do their best. We are all proud of them. Many times, Harman has gone through these situations but she hasn’t crossed the finish line. This time, there was good communication and she took charge. The way she handled the team right after the World Cup was great,” gushed Jhulan in the post-match presentation ceremony.
