At least 5 staff members injured after intruders enter Tokyo primary school: Reports | World News

At least five staff members were left with minor injuries after two men forced their way into a primary school in Tokyo on Thursday, Japanese media reported, citing police sources. There were no immediate reports of any children being harmed, according to news agency AFP.
The intruders allegedly smashed windows before entering a second-grade classroom, Fuji TV reported. The school, Tachikawa Daisan Elementary, is located in the western part of the Japanese capital and has over 500 students and more than 30 staff members, according to its website.
The incident unfolded in the morning, drawing an immediate emergency response. Broadcast footage captured teams of police officers and emergency workers moving around the school premises, while near residents looked on anxiously.

Initial reports mentioned four staff members being injured, though the number was later updated to five. When contacted AFP, police did not immediately confirm details of the break-in.
While Japan is widely regarded as one of the safest countries in the world—with some of the strictest gun laws and a notably low homicide rate—violent incidents do occur occasionally.
On the same day, a separate case saw a man charged with attempted murder following a reported knife attack on the Tokyo subway that left two people injured during rush hour.
