Bride shot dead, 13-year-old wounded as gunmen open fire at wedding in France | World News

In a tragic incident, masked gunmen opened fire at a wedding party and killed the bride in a village near the south-east French city of Avignon on Sunday, when the bride, groom and the guests present in the party were wrapping up their celebrations, police officials said.
A BBC report stated that a suspected attacker was also killed in the crossfire, while a 13-year-old child and the groom were seriously wounded during the incident in the village of Goult. Dozens of police officers and a helicopter were deployed the authorities to catch hold of the unknown number of gunmen, who managed to flee the spot after firing.
According to local French media reports, the violence which shook the wedding celebration in Avignon could be linked to drug related score settling. The police have opened an investigation into the murder of the 27-year-old bride and attempted murder.

A CBS News report quoting a source stated that the newlyweds were wrapping up the celebration and leaving the party at around 4:30am, when the masked gunmen arrived at the location and opened fire. Avignon prosecutor Florence Galtier confirmed that the deceased included the bride and one of the attackers.
The 25-year-old groom was also wounded in the incident. The police officials did not confirm if the 13-year-old child, who was injured in the incident, was related to the couple. But a report in The Sun claimed that the child was the newlywed’s son. The prosecutors said that the gunmen arrived car and had several weapons. They left on foot after firing several rounds at the newlyweds and others.
Goult Mayor Didier Perello told reporters, “I’m angry. I’m outraged. I’m ruling nothing out. Absolutely nothing. We’re close to towns, I won’t name them, where unfortunately, we’ve already seen this kind of thing before.”
