It’s never easy to come back and field at short leg after batting for nearly one and a half day: Fielding coach T Dilip praises Yashasvi Jaiswal’s catch in 1st Test

While everyone is talking about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 171-run marathon innings against the West Indies, Indian fielding coach T Dilip shed light on the catch which the youngster took to dismiss Windies debutant Alick Athanaze in the second innings.
“Most impressive catch I felt was Yashasvi Jaiswal in short leg. I think there are a couple of important things to be noted in that catch. Firstly, he kept himself really low. That’s a first sign to be a good short leg fielder. I think he has done really well on that. But what I really liked was that when you look at his batting. He scored 171 and he was on the field for nearly one and a half day. It’s never easy to come back and then field at the short leg position,” Dilip said.
“Another thing that impressed me was that for a young kid, he missed the catch at first when the same batsman was on 0. To re-focus and come back and stay alert while pulling off a better catch was something that really impressed me,” he added.

In the match, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin finished with a 12-wicket match haul as India handed the West Indies a crushing innings and 141 run defeat inside three days of the first test at Windsor Park in Roseau on Friday.
Ashwin had claimed 5-60 to help skittle out West Indies for 150 in the first innings on a slow, turning track in the first match of the two-test series.
India amassed 421-5 in reply before declaring their first innings with debutant Jaiswal, skipper Rohit Sharma (103) and Virat Kohli (76) scoring bulk of their runs.

Having conceded a lead of 271, West Indies did even worse in their second innings when they were bundled out for 130.
Ashwin was the wrecker-in-chief again, claiming 7-71 even though team mate Jaiswal was adjudged player-of-the-match.
