CM launches 69 development projects
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that cleanliness and order in cities is essential, but above all proper arrangement for livelihood of poor is must. Industries should be established in the cities, but along with this, there should be proper arrangements for the handcarts as well. In the planning of cities, it is necessary to earmark a place for small businessmen and handcart owners.
Chouhan was addressing a programme organized for the virtual dedication of 69 development works done in 24 cities of the State at a cost of Rs 1056 crores at Minto Hall by the Urban Development and Housing Department. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan distributed Rs 299.40 crore of 15th Finance Commission to 402 urban bodies with a single click in the programme. The dedicated works include sewerage project, drinking water scheme, bus stand development, commercial complex, development of gardens, traffic management, library, school building, solar energy and housing complex built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Urban bodies will use the grant released under the 15th Finance Commission on sanitation, solid waste management, drinking water supply, and water conservation.
The programme started with Kanya Pujan and Madhya Pradesh Song. Union Minister of State for Steel Faggan Singh Kulaste, Finance Minister Jagdish Deora, Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhupendra Singh, Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Omprakash Sakhlecha, MLA Krishna Gaur, Principal Secretary Urban Development Manish Singh was present in the programme. All 407 urban bodies of the state joined the programme virtually. Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Bhupendra Singh gave information regarding departmental activities and future plans.
The Chief Minister said that schemes like Swachh Bharat, Smart City, Amrit Yojana, PM Awas and PM Svanidhi have given new dimensions and new pace to urban development. It is the responsibility of all of us to build the India of the dreams of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The positive results of the implementation of urban development plans in the state are now surfacing.
More than 30 percent of states’s population now in urban areas
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the size of cities is constantly on the rise. More than 30 percent population of the state is now living in urban areas, this number will increase further. We are committed to free cities from dirt, pollution, disease, crime and mafia. Cleanliness is the top priority in the urban areas. Madhya Pradesh is the best state in terms of cleanliness. The state has jumped one place higher to get the third position in the country in the cleanliness survey 2020. Indore city has been ranked as the cleanest city for the fourth time. Bhopal is the cleanest self-sustainable capital of the country.
Madhya Pradesh has received 11 awards at the national level in the Smart City Mission. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, 296 bodies of the state have come under ODF Plus. Indore has got the distinction of being the first water plus city of the country. In more than 300 cities, 100 percent waste segregation, transportation and processing and 75 percent solid waste recycling is being done at source itself.
