THE Indian cricket board has done its bit for the fitness of parliamentarians. The country’s richest sporting body has donated Rs 2.25 crore for gym equipment at the Capital’s ‘MPs only” Constitution Club of India (CCI).
This week, the BCCI made public the minutes of its December 21, 2022 apex council meeting where the CCI request was approved. Among those at the meeting was Congress MP and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, who also happens to be CCI’s secretary of sports.
Shukla was not available for comment, but a BCCI official said this is not the first time the board has extended financial support to CCI. “Earlier too, CCI had asked for funds and the BCCI had given it to them. At that point, the request was for improvement of infrastructure,” the official said.
As per the minutes of the meeting, BCCI secretary Jay Shah apprised the members that CCI had requested for funds for procurement of gym equipment.
“Based on the negotiation on the cost and availability of the documents, a final quote was submitted to BCCI which provided a final cost of Rs 2.27 crores… It is suggested that a lumpsum of Rs 2.25 crores be donated to CCI directly towards purchase of Gym equipment. The members took note of the update and approved the lumpsum donation of Rs 2.25 crores to CCI directly…,” the minutes of the meeting stated.
